The 2009 Kala’iomalulani Race was a HUGH success. We had a record 88 crews competing this year, that’s a record for the Kala’iomalulani race and for the 2009 pre-season races so far. Congratulations to the winners of the Yvonne Kaho’okele Perpetual Award and the Verna Dickson Perpetual Award. Your place in the winners circle will be commemorated and a plaque added to the respective paddle. To all other winners, congratulations and please come back to defend that title next year. A big Mahalo goes out to our co-sponsor, Kole Gear from Kauai for donating those awesome hydration packs given to the 1st place winners of the Open Mens long course, Open Womens long course and Open Mix short course.
We’d also like to thank those that helped to make this race such a HIT, the officials that helped with the registration / results, the equipment crew that trailered and set-up the canoes, those that helped in the kitchen to make the ‘ono Hawaiian food, and anyone else that lent a hand in any way, shape or form. Mahalo again for all the kokua!
